Arts community for mental health

After sharing her own experiences with mental health on a personal blog, Sydney based writer and entrepreneur Seema Duggal discovered the cathartic effect of storytelling.

This discovery gave birth to This Place is Yours - a not-for-profit media project and arts organization aimed at creating an online and offline community.

Duggal will be undertaking a PhD to evaluate the This Place is Yours initiative in partnership with the Institute of Culture and Society at University of Western Sydney and the Young and Well CRC.

Striving to enhance empathy and awareness around mental health, the project comprises of a multimedia online magazine, mook (hybrid magazine and book), storytelling workshops and national events.

Duggal has appointed a board of directors and advisors, as well as a handful of sponsors and a team of creatives working on This Place is Yours. Board members include Jess Scully from Creative Sydney and other young leaders within the creative and-not for-profit spaces.

Sponsors include Canvas Group design studio and Vibewire, the co-working hub for social entrepreneurs. With Lyon joining the team as the project's artistic curator, and Corner Store media who created the film campaign below.

Launching in early 2013, submissions are now open and can be made in the form of stories in written, podcast, video or artistic format.

This Place is Yours is now fundraising to launch this platform. To make a donation head to Pozzible
